Spring Program

  • 성인반 봄학기 스케줄(Adult Korean Class Spring Schedule) 

     Spring Program 2024 – (January through May—16 sessions including 2 meetups) 

    Tuition—$300 + $20 application fee (new students only) 

    Course materials will be decided by the teachers.  

    • Beginning Level (BEL)—입문반 

               Tuesdays 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. 

    • Basic Level I (BAL 1)—초급반 1 

               Wednesdays 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. 

    • Intermediate Level I (IL 1)—중급반 1 

               Tuesdays 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. 

Summer Program

  • 성인반 여름학기 스케줄(Adult Korean Class Summer Schedule) 

     Summer Program 2024 – (June through August—10 sessions including 2 meetups) 

    Tuition—$250 + $20 application fee (new students only) 

    Course materials will be decided by the teachers.

New Korean School of Dallas Programs 

AKLP (Adult Korean Language Program) 

2 hours/week for 16 weeks ( 2hr-10 sessions for Summer Program) 

Tuesday or Wednesday evenings (TBD) 

AKLP has 5 Levels of instruction for developing your Korean Language skills. Soon after you register, you will be given a survey to determine your interest, study goal and your appropriate academic level. 

Beginning Level(BEL) 

Students are placed in the beginning classes based on the information acquired from the survey. Level BL starts at the beginning level; at this level, students know very little Korean or no Korean. This level provides beginners of Korean instruction in all language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary. 

The student will learn to: 

  • recognize and understand the letters of the Korean alphabet 
  • recognize basic nouns and verbs 
  • greet people and name common everyday objects 
  • write familiar words and short phrases about everyday objects 

After successful completion of the beginning level, students will be able to carry on basic conversations and read and write simple material. 

Basic Levels (BAL)-1, 2, 3 

Students are placed in the basic level classes based on the survey. Level BAL starts at the basic level; at this level, students know very little Korean but have some Korean experience. This level provides basic learners of Korean instruction in all language skills:  listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary. 

 The student will learn to: 

  • achieve comprehension in basic communicative situations. 
  • read and understand simple informative materials. 
  • write basic sentences and simple pieces of writing. 
  • comprehend basic grammatical structures in a natural context. 
  • develop knowledge of basic vocabulary. 

After successful completion of the basic level, students will be able to carry on basic conversations concerning everyday life and academic topics, read short articles about academic topics, and write simple sentences and basic paragraphs. 

Intermediate Levels (IL)-1, 2, 3 

Students are placed into the intermediate level based on the survey or successful completion of the basic level. This level provides intermediate Korean learners instruction in all language skills. 

The student will learn to: 

  • understand and engage in conversation on everyday topics. 
  • read and understand medium-length selections. 
  • compose paragraphs in conversation on everyday topics. 
  • develop vocabulary appropriate for academic tasks. 

After successfully completing the intermediate level, students will be able to converse comfortably on various subjects, read the newspaper, listen accurately, and write correctly in non-technical areas. 

Advanced Levels (AL) 

Students are placed into the advanced level based on the survey or the successful completion of the intermediate level. This level provides advanced learners of Korean instruction in all language skills. 

 The student will learn to: 

  • engage in ordinary conversation. 
  • read and comprehend academic texts. 
  • compose advanced pieces of writing. 
  • analyze grammatical structures in academic settings. 
  • develop knowledge of advanced-level vocabulary. 

After completing the advanced level, students can study in academic classes, unique for those who plan to enter Korean universities or practical classes and conduct business in Korean for those who want to use Korean in business or everyday life. Students can also prepare for TOPIK exam. 

Proficiency Levels (PL) 

Students are placed into the PL level based on the survey or the successful completion of the advanced level. This level provides proficient learners of Korean with specific skills to promote success in Korean colleges and universities. Students can also prepare for TOPIK exam. 

 The student will learn to: 

  • take effective lecture notes 
  • know what to listen for when taking notes 
  • read textbooks to prepare for college tests 
  • research for academic papers 
  • cite sources in academic papers 
  • prepare and perform presentations for college classes 

After completing the proficient level, a student can successfully attend most major U.S. universities and/or colleges and participate in most professional situations. 

Transcripts & Certificates 

NKSD issues certificates to qualified students upon request. 

Class Size 

Each class has an average of 8-10 students. This gives each student the opportunity for more interaction with the teacher.
